Responding to the demand for lower carbon emissionsDate: Wednesday, 15th October 2008 Programme Responding to the demand for lower carbon emissions The Scottish Climate Change Bill seeks a reduction in greenhouse gases of 80% by 2050. In addition, the Scottish Government is aiming to generate 40% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2020. These targets have huge implications in the planning and development world as policy makers and local authorities respond. This seminar will look briefly at the Scottish Planning Policy 6: Renewable Energy and Planning Advice note 84: Reducing Carbon Emissions in New Development and will discuss our understanding of the issues and how developers and others can, and have to, respond to these changes. Speaker: Elaine Troup, Turley Associates Elaine Troup, a qualified architect and now Senior Urban Designer for Turley Associates, has a wealth of experience focussing on masterplanning, regeneration and community engagement. She started her career working as an assistant architect for a private practice in Glasgow before completing a Masters in Urban Design at the University of Strathclyde. This was followed by joining the Turley Associates team in late 2004. Over the years Elaine has been involved with numerous urban design and masterplanning projects ranging from town centre brownfield sites to an array of coastal developments. Most recently she has been involved in the masterplanning of a former oil rig fabrication yard on the Cowal Peninsula, Belvidere Hospital site in the East End of Glasgow and the planning framework for the National Indoor Sports Arena in Dalmarnock. Elaine is a committee member of the Central Scotland branch of Women in Property and sits on the judging panel for The Herald Property Awards 2008.
